2012 Kurrimine Beach

Creek and Outer Reef Fishing Competition

The inaugural Kurrimine Beach Creek and outer Reef Fishing
Competition was held at Kurrimine Beach last weekend in the most glorious weather conditions possible. An incredible 525 anglers fished in the pristine waters of the Cassowary Coast including 106 junior anglers.

The family friendly fishing competition offered over $50 000 in prizes and incorporated many fun activities for the kids including a jumping castle, a massive 18 square meter TV screen, activities arranged by both the Tully and Innisfail support centres for the juniors including treasure hunts, whilst the parents enjoyed a band, BBQ, bar and the finals footy on another massive 12 square meter screen.

The outstanding Brag night was held at the Kurrimine Beach Hall and was the highlight of the weekend.

Undoubtedly the family orientated nature of the comp assured the success of this venture which was inspired by the KBFC executive committee in an attempt to provide a fishing competition for the many locals that frequently fish our very productive waters.

KBFC would like to thank our many sponsors who supported this community event which has promoted recovery for many local businesses in the local region. Close to one thousand people gathered at King Reef Resort on Friday evening for the official briefing and the first of the 6 major prize draws which were valued at $1000 each for the seniors and $250 for the juniors.

Club President Andrew Maley would like to thank the many locals that volunteered their time to process the outstanding number of nominations, launch and retrieve vessels and weigh fish in whilst the keen anglers wet a line to catch a trophy fish.

In particular club secretary Tony Corby, treasurer Geoff Robards, vice president Dave McGuire and club captain Sally Maley and Dave Copland committed endless hours of their time to ensure the tournament ship was sailing in the right direction!

Mums, Dads and even the youngest anglers had a great chance to jag the catch of the day in the mystery weights prizes, which were won by six anglers from across all of the divisions- senior male, senior female and junior

Lucky angler Mick Field from Sydney certainly enjoyed the weekend after taking home the lucky nomination Senior Super Draw prize of a 399 Proline Tinnie valued at $15000 which was kindly donated by King Reef Resort and Innisfail Marine.

Champion Junior Angler Gaven Black also won the hotly contested Overall Champion Angler
division which included a Suzuki DFBA valued at $3200 and many other impressive prizes. Gaven outpointed many very accomplished local anglers who landed some outstanding fish reaffirming Kurrimine Beach as truly a fisherman’s paradise! We look forward to providing an even bigger fishing competition in 2013.
